Overview

Sarita’s Pupuseria, nestled in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles’ food scene on S Broadway, delivers an authentic Salvadoran experience grounded in tradition and flavor. This modest yet bustling spot draws locals and visitors alike, eager to savor the iconic pupusa—a beloved Salvadoran staple crafted from fresh masa and filled with savory combinations like pork, beans, cheese, and loroco.

The Revuelta Pupusa, blending pork, beans, and cheese, stands out as a crowd favorite, especially when paired with the tangy, crunchy curtido and a drizzle of the house’s garlicky, spicy hot sauce. The pupusas arrive hot, with a perfectly crisp exterior that gives way to a warm, gooey interior, highlighting expert preparation and respect for culinary tradition. Complementing the pupusas, dishes like the Yuca Frita and hearty soups such as Sopa De Pollo offer comforting textures and bold, layered flavors that showcase Salvadoran home cooking at its best.

Situated within a lively market environment, Sarita’s Pupuseria captures the essence of street-side dining, where the fresh preparation of food happens right before your eyes. The space is no-frills, reflecting a focus on the food rather than ambiance, making it ideal for those who prioritize authentic flavors over upscale surroundings. Though service can occasionally feel rushed or less polished, the genuine care in the kitchen shines through in every bite—turning first-timers into repeat visitors.

Sarita’s appeals to a diverse audience—food lovers keen to explore Salvadoran cuisine, workers seeking a satisfying lunch, or anyone eager for a hearty, comforting meal with roots in tradition. Whether you’re a pupusa newcomer or an aficionado, the balance of spice, texture, and freshness makes this a destination worth tasting when in Los Angeles.

For those curious about Salvadoran gastronomy or in search of a flavorful, unpretentious meal, Sarita’s Pupuseria offers a simple yet memorable journey into one of Central America’s most cherished dishes.

At a pupuseria, you should really stick to the pupusas and this place holds up to their reputation. Went on a Wednesday around 530 and with a few orders in front of me, I only waited about 10 mins. I had the Revuelta which is a mix of pork, bean and cheese. You have to get the slaw with a few squirts of the traditional hot sauce that ties it all together IMO. The hot sauce is spicy and the flavor of garlic and whatever else is amazing. The pupusa was hot and crispy coming off the flat top and went down smooth with a Modelo. They’re a good size bigger than average and worth the $5.50. Definitely swinging by next time for 1 while I’m still in town.

I love the market where this place is located. There are so many different foodstalls to choose from that it can sometimes be a little intimidating. I'd never had pupusas before so decided to give it a shot and I was not disappointed. The food was prepped right before us and served hot and fresh. The coleslaw had a nice kick and crunch to it. I recommend getting the Yuka fries, they were very good.

Great food. I highly recommend the pupusas and the yuca frita. The attention wasn’t that kind, but it’s was ok.

I had an event last week and order various items at Saritasl's pupuseria. I ordered pupusas: carne asada, chicken, shrimp, revueltas and they all tasted amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant. My coworkers enjoyed the amazing tast. Thank you for the amazing service
